DOES THIS MAKE ME A TREKKIE?????

I just finished a biography on Deforest Kelley.

If that name rings a bell, you might be a Trekkie.

My other recent reads have been Nichelle Nichols, James Doohan, Leonard Nimoy, and William Shatner. I had Amazon send me George Takei and Walter Koenig's books to complete the “set”. If you can say Uhura, Scottie, Spock, and Capt Kirk, you most DEFINITELY are a Trekkie.

So many people assume the fandom is totally about the show, but that's only if you haven't found out more about the actors and actresses that played the parts.

What amazing stories they all tell!

Beyond the work they have done in front of our eyes, these folks are much more than the characters they played long ago. Life has gone on the last (almost) 50 years and every one of our cast members have done a LOT that they can be proud of. I certainly am watching with more enthusiasm now that I know a bit more about each of these people.

They are not perfect. They have (self-admitted) flaws as we all do. Should they be revered just for a show that didn't complete it's five-year mission? Of course not. They SHOULD be revered as the consummate professionals they are and the impact they have had and continue to have on our lives.

Find out which of our “stars” was in a war and lost a finger but NONE of the men he led on the invasion of Normandy....

Discover which of our bridge crew has inspired many, many people to go into careers that they may have otherwise never imagined....

Be surprised at the actor that worked in the business 50 years yet never lived the glamorous life of a STAR....

Smile as you hear from the actor who admitted he was less-than-a-great role model to his kids, yet they turned out OK....

I can endorse each of these biographies, not because I know what a “tribble” is, but because I love the full and successful LIVES each of these treasures have shared with us. They have given the greatest gift of all – a piece of their soul is on display and entertains generation after generation.

Do yourself a favor. Read their words and see if you don't enjoy seeing Uhura smile just a bit more. Find more to like about Chekov by seeing what Walter had to go thru. Love Scottie to new levels when you clearly see Jimmy and his talent take him far beyond expectations. Understand the man behind Sulu and the challenges he has overcome with flair and dignity. Realize the ups and downs that Spock created for his alter-ego. Know a little more about Kirk when you know a little more about Shatner and why – he – acts – the – way – he – do.

Here are the titles to look for -

I'm sure there are MORE, but these are what I enjoyed...

Yes.... I'm an incurable Trekkie. And PROUD of it.

Live long and prosper....
