HUMANE SOCIETY of the HARRISBURG AREA
One of the most cherished organizations in the area has to be the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area. It's hard to believe, but they are in their 101st year of service to the community and the animal population. Imagine how many loving dogs, cats, and other species have enjoyed the benefit of the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area's touch.. Thousands of animals will pass through the doors in 2012, and hopefully each one goes to a great family that is lucky to have them.
HSHA is a non-profit that does NOT receive funds from any government agency or national organization. They operate through donations and volunteering while servicing the counties of Dauphin, Cumberland, Perry and Northern York. There is always a wish list of things needed. If you are interested in helping with this, HERE is a direct link.
There are many ways to donate and a link is provided HERE to see what is best for you. Surely there is one that will enable you to.
Children can also be involved and HERE is a link to find out how.
Foster care is also a regular option for those animals that need the special attention provided by the temporary “parent”. HERE is a link to more information, if interested.
I have chosen the volunteer route recently and I was lucky enough to be able to use my vast knowledge and experience gained in working over 30 years in various positions with many different companies and dealing with every level of management from CEO to staff.
I qualified for dish detail.
It's not a position for just anyone! You must be resilient, focused, driven, good looking and most of all, water-resistant! The pile seemed to be never-ending, but eventually, with a lot of help from others, it became manageable. Without the clean dishes, the whole operation would come to a screeching halt. You COULD make a case, it's the most important job in the facility. Well, you COULD!
I was just happy to help. The animals deserve to not only live a good life, but to see humanity at it's best. Those that can't take care of themselves are our responsibility and at the shelter, it's not taken lightly!
If you want to volunteer for duties that are maybe more to your own desires, HERE is where you can find a list and what the expectations and qualifications are.
It is much appreciated and you feel great lending a hand!
