Uhhhhhhmmmmmmm........
Full confession.... I never stopped
having feelings for MKenZie....
I would stop almost every Sunday, as my
work in the office was completed, and see the latest MKZ's in stock
at the local dealer. Sometimes they had one I loved, other times not,
but all the time I wondered, SHOULD I have gotten the diesel??
Although the BMW is a nice car to
drive, it has it's own set of annoyances to put up with. Service,
once the free period ended, was extreme. An oil change was over $180.
The car I drove didn't have navigation, which I told everyone who
would listen that I would NEVER, EVER, EVER own a car without it... then I bought
one without it... duh. On top of all that, the stereo stunk...
ugh....
Don't get me wrong, it WAS nice to get
compliments from a lot of folks who couldn't help but say something.
The car obviously was made with quality in mind. It was even VERY
economical on fuel as I averaged over 25 mpg, even though I wasn't
trying to be slow.
I put 37000 miles on it in almost a
year, but in the back of my mind, I still had doubts I wanted to keep
it around.... I didn't even give it a name! It was just “the
diesel”...
so...............
I traded for a Boss......
Yes, I know..... WTF?????? I said the
same thing, and I was THERE!!!!
Where is MKenZie in all this?????
Well.....
Here's what happened.
I now have a 2nd vehicle
that I can drive every day. It isn't a showcar or anything , as a
matter of fact, it's rather ugly and worn, but it runs and has room
to haul stuff. It's funny, but the idea to get this started when I
got the Harley....
Oh.... it's been a while since I wrote
huh?
Well, since I now have a garage to keep
a car (or two!), I figured I would get a motorcycle to go back and
forth to work. Nothing too nice, just something to keep the miles
down on the diesel. Plus, I remember how much fun it was to ride on
nice days.
In my search for a cheap bike, I found
out there aren't many cheap bikes! Jeeeze, what happened in the 10
years since I sold my last one??? Even the clunky ones were more than
a few bucks. What to do???? I went on Craigs list and found something
that caught my eye.... a Sportster.
I'm not a Harley guy, don't care for
the image, don't like the noise coming from the pipes of most of
them, but, I figured that since I've always been a
motorcycle guy, I should own at least one Harley in my life. It
wasn't too much more expensive that the beater-bikes I was
considering, plus I could always resell it for what I paid. Easy
decision.
The ride from picking it up was an
eye-opener.... I HATED IT!!!!!!
In my most vivid memories of rides in
the past, I never imagined being on a motorcycle could be so NOT
fun!!! The wind was blowing, the power of the bike was
less-than-adequate, the riding position was unfamiliar, and there
isn't even a gas gauge????? Why the heck not????????????
In the rides since, I have grown to not
hate as much, but there is no way I could use this bike for any long
trips. I went over 100 miles one day and felt like I landed
butt-first after jumping off a 2 story house. Not pleasant! I don't
see a long future with an HD in my garage, but anyway.... getting
back to the car.....
Once I had the Harley, I realized I
didn't want to ride it to work. Yeah, I know, the idea to get it in the first place was for work, but it is too nice to leave outside all
day. So much for THAT plan! You'd think after all these years,
planning would lead to a better result! Maybe a 2nd
bike.... hmmmmm...
Anyhoo.....
The search for something to drive to
work went fast as a friend of mine had a Toyota 4Runner that he
wanted to unload and it was cheap enough to buy. Of course, I know
me, and I know that clunkers are not my specialty, but I said to
myself, “Self.... just drive it and don't worry about how it looks
or how comfortable it is, or how some things don't work, or anything.
It will be there in the rain, sleet and snow.” Of course I
answered, “But it's not a FORD!”
If anyone knows why I do what I do,
it's me, so I haven't spoken to me since.....
